How To Make a Paper Airplane

Making a paper airplane is a fun and simple activity. Here’s a step-by-step guide to create a classic paper airplane:

Materials Needed:

  • A sheet of standard letter-size paper (8.5 x 11 inches)

Steps to Make a Classic Paper Airplane:

1. Start with a Rectangular Sheet of Paper:

Place the paper on a flat surface. If you want a symmetrical airplane, make sure the paper is clean and not crumpled.

2. Fold the Paper in Half Lengthwise:

Fold the paper in half lengthwise (hot dog style) so that the long edges align. Crease the fold well, then unfold. This crease will serve as your center guideline.

3. Fold the Top Corners to the Center Crease:

Take the top right corner of the paper and fold it down toward the center crease. The top edge should line up with the center crease.

Repeat with the top left corner. You should now have a triangle shape at the top with a point at the center.

4. Fold the Top Edges to the Center Crease Again:

Take the new right edge of the paper and fold it down toward the center crease, forming a narrower triangle.

Repeat with the left edge. The paper should now resemble a tall arrow or a house shape.

5. Fold the Paper in Half Along the Original Center Crease:

Fold the paper in half again along the original center crease, bringing the two sides together. The folds from the previous steps should now be on the outside.

6. Create the Wings:

Lay the folded paper flat on the surface with the pointed end facing you.

To create the wings, fold down one side of the paper, aligning the edge of the paper with the bottom crease (the long edge of the folded paper).

Repeat on the other side to form the second wing. Make sure both wings are even and crease them well.

7. Open the Wings:

Gently lift the wings so that they are flat and horizontal, perpendicular to the body of the airplane.

8. Adjust and Fly:

Adjust the wings and the body to ensure they are straight. Now, your paper airplane is ready to fly!

Enjoy flying your paper airplane!
