Change ringtone on Android
Changing your ringtone is a small switch that can quietly make your phone feel more like yours. Follow these clear steps.
Standard Android settings (most phones)
Open Settings
- Go to: Settings > Sound & vibration > Phone ringtone.
Choose a built-in tone
- Select: Pick any pre-installed ringtone and tap Save/OK.
Use your own audio file (MP3/M4A)
- Add: Tap “Add ringtone” or the plus icon, then choose a song/audio file from Files/Music.
- Confirm: Save/OK to set it as your default ringtone.
Samsung (One UI)
Open Settings
- Go to: Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.
Pick a tone or add one
- Built-in: Tap a ringtone to preview, then Done.
- Custom: Tap the + (Add), select an audio file (MP3/M4A) from “Tracks/Files,” trim if prompted, then Done.
Google Pixel
Open Settings
- Go to: Settings > Sound & vibration > Phone ringtone.
Choose a tone or add one
- Built-in: Select and tap Save.
- Custom: Tap “Add ringtone,” pick your file from Downloads or Files, then Save.
Set a custom ringtone for a specific contact
Open the Contacts app
- Select contact: Tap the person you want to customize.
Edit and set ringtone
- Tap: Edit (pencil) > Ringtone (or More > Set ringtone).
- Choose: Pick a built-in tone or add your own file, then Save.
If “Add ringtone” doesn’t appear
- Move the file:
- Label: Put your audio in the Ringtones folder.
- Steps: Open Files app > Internal storage > Ringtones > paste your MP3/M4A. Then check Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone again.
- File format:
- Label: Use MP3/M4A; very long files may be rejected.
- Permissions:
- Label: Allow the Settings or Sounds app to access media when prompted.
Quick tips
- Keep it short: 20–30 seconds rings cleanly and loads faster.
- Volume check: Adjust volume in Settings > Sound & vibration > Ring volume after changing.
- Silent/Do Not Disturb: If calls seem quiet, ensure Ring mode is on and Do Not Disturb is off.
